I remember it very well. It was 1999, 10 p.m. at the local country club. prom night! Right after the standard chicken and potatoes meal was finished, it was time for the prom king and queen to be announced. They danced, the entire senior class Macarena-ed, probably did the limbo, and yes, “YMCA” was a hit. I was tired and ready to go, but before taking off, the DJ that night made an announcement: “If you want to be a DJ, come talk to me.”

With no plans at the time, my best friend and I decided to go talk to him. Several weeks later, we found ourselves on the other side of the decks…well, CD players. That’s how it all started for me and I’ve been lucky enough to do it full time for most of the last 26 years.

I love being a DJ. I love not knowing what’s going to happen on any given night. I love the nerves that still eat me up the night before a gig. Sometimes I wonder what would’ve happened if the photographer at my prom had made an announcement instead. 😬 I really love this job. I get to bring people out of their everyday lives for a while and just enjoy each other and share a moment.
